Fabulous Wedding Dress Alterations Judith was by far the best! After pulling my dress from an alteration shop that I was unsure of, I frantically searched for another seamstress. Other alteration shops literally told me they would not touch my dress due to the intricate bead work and detail of the dress. When I took my dress to Judith, I immediately had confidence in her abilities and had zero doubts in her work. She was so flexible schedule wise and worked efficiently on my dress. She gave me honest opinions throughout the process. When I asked for certain changes (for instance lifting the dress higher at the bust) she explained to me why that would not look the best and she was absolutely right. Not only did she do a beautiful job on my wedding gown but also two other white dresses for other wedding events. She was so fun to work with and like talking to a close friend. Go to her for peace of mind and wonderful results.

10/27/2013 I had a great experience with Judith's Boutique. Judith is very warm and encouraging and helped me tremendously by suggesting I try on a beautiful, vintage-style gown I had overlooked. The dress was just right for me -- it was flattering and just my style. I received many, many compliments on it at my wedding! Judith did a great job on the alterations, giving me a little extra room in the hips by adjusting the dress's outer layer. She also helped me figure out just the best way to wear a sheer wrap I bought to go with the dress, and tacked it to the dress for me so it wouldn't slip. I found I felt more comfortable at this boutique than other bridal stores I had visited -- her place is small and you deal directly with Judith, so, for me, it was relaxed, friendly experience. I highly recommend Judith's Boutique and plan to take advantage of her offer to help me clean and store my wedding dress.

8/9/20 Can't say thank you enough to Judith for beautifully altering my wedding dress I got online due to COVID. Although it didn't require major alterations, she made suggestions which I didn't even think about and ended up being just perfect. She even hemmed my husband's pants last minute. She was very accommodating and made the whole experience very easy and made me feel at ease during what could've been a stressful time. I could also talk to her about all aspects of the wedding, and she had great ideas. I would highly recommend Judith with all your alteration needs without hesitation.

I had such a great experience having a bridesmaid’s dress altered with Judith! She is creative and had great suggestions on improving the dress and the alterations were done quickly and expertly! I have taken bridesmaids dresses to three other tailors in the area and each time the other tailors took several weeks and needed to make second revisions before I could take the dress home.  26 weeks ago I originally brought my wedding dress to another boutique, who ended up almost ruining the top part of my dress. The previous tailor re-did the top and ended up taking the straps way too wide almost beyond repair. After much frustration, I decided to take my business elsewhere and thank goodness I found Judith. She was able to take my dress and give me the style I originally requested from the first boutique. I can’t believe she was able to fix the dress just the way I wanted and also listened to me when I wanted something different. I am so grateful I found her - otherwise, I most likely would have purchased a new dress. I only wish I brought my dress to Judith initially to avoid the stress from the first place. I can’t thank her enough for her talent and patience!

 22 weeks ago Like so many brides, my daughter’s wedding was supposed to happen in May 2020 she has had her dress for over two years. And like so many small bridal shops, the one from whom she purchased her dress went out of business during The pandemic. Thankfully we were able to retrieve the dress but it desperately needed to be altered. We had heard good things about Judith and have been more than pleased with her work, her attention to detail, and her commitment to doing what she says she’ll do when she says she’ll do it. My daughter’s dress now fits like it was made just for her, and Judith made her feel so special. She’s a pro, very good at what she does, and a delightful personality! She is a true professional, and was quick to identify how we should alter my mother's 30 year old wedding dress so that I can wear it for my own wedding this June. Not only can she tailor the dress to fit you perfectly, she can also alter it to your tastes - for my dress, we are removing a lot of the very 80's details to make it a little more modern! She is making sure the dress is professionally cleaned prior to alterations, and she was also helpful in suggesting the correct undergarments to wear with the dress and how to choose the right veil. All in all I would highly recommend Judith for any of your alteration needs, especially for something as precious as your wedding dress!

12/4/16 I purchased my dress in Pennsylvania and went to Judith six weeks before our destination wedding. In addition to making sure the bust of my dress fit correctly, she suggested alterations that made the dress absolutely breathtaking, including a French bustle and changing the back of the dress from straight across to a slight V. When hemming the dress, she went above and beyond to preserve the scalloping of the lace. She worked quickly and accommodated several evening fittings. I'm so happy with how the dress turned out and can't thank Judith enough for making it perfect.

1/15/18 I was incredibly nervous taking my mother's wedding dress to get re-done to wear at my own wedding. At the time of her wedding, my mother weighed 55lbs less than I do. So, needless to say the dress really needed alterations. I am so happy I took my wedding dress to Judith. Over the duration of a year, I was in and out of her business a number of times. 9/26/16 We got married in Hella, Iceland on Aug. 6, 2016. My dress was from Vera Wang's White Collection which I bought at David's Bridal. Pictures attached! I found Judith on Weddingwire and she is a fun, honest, responsive business owner and felt her prices were appropriate for what I got done with my dress. After reaching out to Judith through Weddingwire, I received an email and we scheduled an initial phone call to discuss process, my thoughts on what I wanted done to the dress and potential cost. I felt comfortable with her at this point so we scheduled an in-person appointment. You will pay half during your first fitting and half when you take home the gown. When I first arrived, Judith was bubbly and friendly and walked around me, looking at my dress and we discussed wedding location. I felt like she took the time to learn who I was and what style I wanted for my wedding day. This was really important to me as I went by myself since my mom was out of the area. I'm also fortunate that I fit the top rather well; however, Judith was honest and shared I probably needed to tone up my back. It was pretty straight forward, but I'm not too sensitive of a person and don't take myself too seriously so it didn't bother me, but rather motivated me to add a back workout to my schedule 🙂 Judith and I scheduled out my 2 additional fittings and I made sure I had my undergarments for the second fitting and all my accessories for my third and final fitting. I also brought two friends during my final fitting and Judith was welcoming. Throughout my time working with Judith, we focused on the bottom of the dress, removing 4 layers, making sure the length fit with my snow boots and decided since our wedding was outdoors in Iceland that an European bustle would be more appropriate. When discussing the removal of the layers, which I wanted, Judith was great at discussing which layers should and should not be removed. Overall, I was pleased with Judith and her skills and would recommend her.

8/17/15 I came into Judith's back in the Spring with my bridesmaid dress. At the last minute, it was decided that we would buy dresses online from another country. So, I ended up with a dress that I didn't really like and on top of that, it was quite a bit too small. I had had dress alterations before but usually just having a little taken in or adjusting straps, so I naively expected it to only take a couple days. I took my dress in about a week before the wedding (which was out of state) and found out that I needed extra fabric. I was super panicked and was thinking I'd probably have to tell the bride that I couldn't be in the wedding. Judith suggested I check G Street and Jo-Ann for fabric matches, so I went to both that evening and got the closest matches I could find. I took them back the next day and Judith told me she could work with them. I worried about it over that weekend because I thought the dress would look terrible and the different fabric would stand out and be super embarrassing but when I went back in for the first fitting, I was shocked at how good it looked. And for the final fitting, Judith had made the fit adjustments I requested and I actually went from hating the dress to considering wearing it again at some point. And most importantly, I felt comfortable in it and I felt comfortable at the wedding. Thanks so much for the great job, Judith, and the fast turn-around time! Definitely was a life-saver.

5/15/13 Judith is the best! She clearly is extremely talented but also very passionate about her work. She gives her opinion based on her expertise, but will let you make the final decisions. She is very honest and will tell you if something you invision will turn out the way you want or not, which is what every bride should want, so you can look as beautiful as you hope on your wedding day. Her prices are extremely reasonable and she finished my dress very quickly! One of my bridesmaids dress was too small...Judith found a way to fix it without having to let out the seam and made the cut of the dress even cuter than it was to begin with! I highly recommend Judith to anyone looking for a trustworthy, talented, reasonable seamstress!

10/21/10 I had a great experience with Judith. I bought my dress in NYC and had no interest in running up and down the I-95 corridor just to have the dress altered, so I looked closer to home. After searching for many hours online for a place, I settled on Judith's. My mother and I went for the first fitting and she was great! She pinned and fussed over me (in a good way) and was helpful in suggesting what type of bustle would look best on me (who knew there was more than one type)! At the second fitting apparently I had lost some weight (I honestly had not tried to, but it was an added bonus) and she suggested that I push my final fitting to the Sat before the wedding just in case I lost more weight. I was initially a little nervous about this... what if the dress wasn't done in time!?!? My worrying was for naught as not only on the last fitting was she totally on point, but she was also able to navigate through my mother, my two aunts and my cousin all who do not speak English and have a tendency to speak loudly (people from the Mediterranean-what are you going to do)?!? Oy! She was so great with my dress, all of them and with me! I picked up my dress on Wed evening just as scheduled and it looked great! I would recommend her to anyone! Wonder Woman of Wedding Dress Alterations

Beth Married on 11/03/2018 Rating 5 out of 5 5.0 I was recommended Judith by my planner (Birch Event & Design) to handle my alterations for my wedding dress. I met with a couple of other alteration places before meeting with Judith. As soon as I met with her I knew she was the right person for me. Judith was the only one who explained exactly what she was going to do, and pointed out the specific areas where she had to ensure the lines were alinged exactly right. As a bit of a control freak i was very nervous about turning over my dress to anyone, Judith put me at ease immediately and I felt complete confidence in her. My dress was a very simple dress, apparently that makes it VERY difficult to work with as you cant hide anything under a lace of tulle overlay! I had a lot of fittings, but the only reason for that is because Judith needed to see how it looked on me at each step. It was incredible to see the dress take shape and become mine. I couldn't recommend Judith enough, she is incredibly talented, meticulous and on top of that very reasonable. Sent on 11/18/2018

7/31/2019 Judith was a God send! I needed my wedding dress re-altered fast! The first time, I had my dress altered at David's bridal. They were very nice and professional, but said there was only so much they could alter on the dress. I thought that was a little strange. When I got the dress, it was still huge on me and the bustle was done wrong. I was moving back home to get married in a few weeks and didn't have time to have my dress done after that. Judith looked at the dress on me and just understood how a dress should fit on a woman's body. She also fixed the bustle. After she just pinned the dress to where it should be, I felt 100x better. I felt like "me" in the dress. She did it within two weeks. I honestly thought I was going to look like an idiot on my wedding day, but Judith made it fit like a glove!

6/27/18 Let me preface this review by saying that I have not taken my dress to be altered here but the review is based on the conversation I had with her on the phone prior to ever meeting her. I was doing my due diligence on trying to find a wedding dress seamstress for a dress I had my eyes on and found Judith via yelp. I decided to give her a call to get an estimate on what it would possibly cost to have the dress I wanted altered after trying it on at a boutique in Annapolis and she gave me a quick but very educational explanation on making sure the dress was measured correctly and to have things documented in the order sheet so what i pay for is what I receive. She then asked me who the designed of my dress was to see if I was getting a proper quote and told me that it was a bit higher than what it should be and advised me to call around other boutiques who might carry that designer to compare costs. I took her suggestion to heart and found the dress I loved at $200 less than what I was quoted for at the Annapolis shop! So thank you Judith for bringing that attention to me and taking the time to explain the run down on how to cost effectively and smartly purchase a wedding dress. The boutique I ended up buying my dress from has an in house seamstress so I won't be needing to take it to Judith but she helped me, in her own way, to buy the dress I wanted at a comfortable price and I am so grateful for that.

Judith altered my (rather unforgiving) silk trumpet wedding dress perfectly, it fit like a glove and looked amazing! I had a lot of intricate beadworks at the bottom of my dress that she had to remove and re-stitch one by one after taking the length off of the dress. She also altered my bridesmaids dresses very well. She listened to and addressed all of my requests and concerns and did so very professionally. Even taught me the best way to walk in my form fitting dress. A really good experience overall. Just took my dress back to her to send out for cleaning and preservation. I highly recommend her!

8/13/13 I have nothing but positive experiences working with Judith. She understands how to fit a dress to your body and what alterations look best for your type of dress. She altered my wedding dress to fit comfortably where I could breathe and feel confident about how I looked. She then also altered another dress of mine and cut the train to look better than it was originally. I am going to see her about altering another dress because she has shown her expertise. I trust her fully in understanding what looks best and how to work with different materials. She is also quite fun to talk to and my appointments with her always end in laugh riots.

3/26/12 Judith was absolutely amazing. I got my dress from Filene's basement Running of the Brides 9 months before my wedding. I bought the dress three sizes too small. When I lost enough weight to really fit the dress, it ended up being a little big, specifically in the chest area. It was laying on me a little weird just weeks before the wedding, and I was panicked that it would look bad on my wedding day. I didn't really think anything could be done, but Judith could tell how nervous I was about it, and she spent extra time to work with me to make sure we got it right. She helped me so much and really took so much stress away from me for my wedding day. No one wants to be self conscious when they're walking down the aisle and Judith took that feeling away for me. She was wonderful! She also built a gorgeous bustle into the dress. She showed us lots of different options on how it should be done. She also made lots of little suggestions to improve the dress that I never would have thought of without her. She is a real expert and knows what she's doing!

7/1/10 I found Judith's online and she had great reviews (just none here, yet!). Originally I looked into a gown alterations shop much closer to my home near Old Town, but was turned off when I called and asked about pricing. I acknowledged that they hadn't yet seen my dress but I asked if they could provide a range or any information on cost. She immediately said that wedding gown alterations start at $350. I was quite uncomfortable with a blanket starter fee (I hadn't given any info on what I needed done!) and started searching online. Finding Judith, I called her and she was very kind on the phone, explaining how after a free consultation she would provide estimates. She's located in an office complex in Vienna - a modest space that surely keeps her operating costs down. I did not feel rushed at all. She showed and explained the different types of bustles to me as well as gave me some general wisdom/advice as she measured. She also let me try out various veil options. My lace hem was taken up, straps adjusted, bra cups added, sides taken in, and she made a bustle. All costs were itemized on a receipt totaling $385.00. I was very comfortable with the price since I knew where it was going. About a month later I picked it up and it looks great! After seeing it on, she adjusted the bustle and took great time showing me how it would latch up. She also offered to have me back before my wedding if I wanted to bring a bridesmaid to do a bustle run-through. Overall, Judith did a fantastic job and made sure I will look great. Definitely one less thing to worry about!

I bought my dress at another store and did not have a great experience with them, so I did not trust them to alter it. But I completely trusted Judith from the moment I met her. She not only altered my dress, but she gave me advice on the veil to buy, the lingerie I should wear under my dress, and shoes. The day of the wedding when I picked it up after it was steamed, she was more concerned than I was about it getting wrinkled going back in the bag. From The Knot.com I went to Judith with a wedding dress that I had purchased online. I chose her mostly because the location was near my office in Tysons and I would be able to pop in and out during lunch time for my fittings. Even when I wasn't able to make a fitting, I called Judith last minute to reschedule and she was completely flexible. I brought Judith a dress that was 2 sizes too big, had a zipper where I wanted a corset back, needed hemming and a bustle among other changes. Judith customized the dress in every way that I requested. I had 2 fittings after I brought it in initially and before I picked it up, and she made sure everything was perfect. My dress did not need to be steamed because of the material, but she offers day-of steaming for the dresses. The dress had so many layers and additional layers at an angle that it required a more complex bustle. Judith color coded the buttons and loops for us which was invaluable. My mother and bridesmaids were not impressed with the dress when I bought it, but after Judith was done they loved it as much as I did. The alterations were more expensive than I had hoped, but I had heard so many tailoring horror stories that I didn't mind paying more for on-time and quality. The dress itself was not expensive and even with the alterations, I saved a great deal of money making the changes I wanted to a dress I really liked rather than searching for the "perfect" dress when I really disliked dress shopping. Judith made my dress perfect. I hired her with plenty of time before my wedding and she was always aware of timing just in case I needed/wanted more changes. Judith is very professional and friendly, her office is easy to get to, and I never felt rushed at fittings (in fact it was the opposite and it felt like I had all the time in the world!). I would recommend her to anyone.

7/21/10 Judith is amazing! I had originally taken my dress to another place and they did an okay job. There were some creases I didn't like in the lining and the top was fitting kind of strange. I made the mistake of asking my drycleaner if they could fix it and they assured me they could. Long story short they made it worse and I only have one week till my wedding. I pretty much assumed I was going to have to throw the whole dress away and start over. One of my girlfriends had reminded me of Judith who had made a dress for my friend years ago (and girlfriend looked good). I pretty much cried myself to sleep the night before but I figured I would give my dress one last shot and I would call Judith in the morning. I called her last Friday and explained to her my situation. She had me come in that afternoon and quickly went to work. She told me to come back the following Wednesday (less then one week from me first going there) that way if she needed to do anything else she still had some time to fix it. I was certain I would have to pay up the wazoo because of the short notice and all the work that needed to be done. When she told me the price I almost kissed her! She was extremely affordable! After leaving there I knew everything was going to be okay. I picked up my dress today and my dress looks amazing. She made the top look better then before, replaced the cheap looking bustle and much much more. Ladies you need to only go to one place for alterations and that is definitely judiths.

I went to another alternations place in Rosslyn and almost cried leaving when I randomly google searched another tailor nearby and found Judith. The first woman was going to charge $1000 for alterations. I had bought my gown from Kleinfeld's during a trunk sale and it was bridal size 8. I am a size 2 or 4 so it was big on me. All I really needed was for it to be taken in, hemmed and bustled. I thought the 1G was outrageous. The woman prior used every trick in the book, including emotional threats and fear saying, "you don't want to take it to David's Bridal and have them stuff it up then I would have to fix it at a later date and it would cost you twice." So then I went to Judith's. She was very professional, gave a much more reasonable quote and friendly. She was on-time and we had 2 fittings before she pressed the dress for the big day.
